I'm usually shooting brides and not babies. Until the magical moment when my brides have babies, that is!! Then, I can't help myself. It's such a warm fuzzy feeling. It gives me a big excuse for some baby-snuggling time. Who can resist them? Weddings are in short supply this time of year but happily, babies are not. Here's wishing you some baby love for 2012!

Nicole + Jason! What a darling couple! It was a gloriously beautiful day to shoot an engagement session. Not only did we have the breathtaking Honey Run Covered Bridge to shoot at, but a very cool neighbor and local antique car icon loaned us his amazing antique cars and cool barn for backdrops. Nicole & Jason will marry in March at The Card Center in Chico. I have a feeling it will be great fun! You guys were super easygoing and fun to shoot. Hurry spring!

What a fun engagement shoot!! We got up with the chickens! Well, we met at 8:00 a.m. -- mainly to avoid the smoldering oven that was yesterday in Chico and Redding. We went for a relaxing photo-stroll through One Mile in Chico and then down to CSU for a bit. Alisha and Nick will tie the knot at the Butte Creek Country Club in June next year. I'm definitely looking forward to it. They radiate happiness!

Oh, what a lovely place to have a wedding!! This is one of my favorite venues. The winding drive up to Pine-Gri-La is idyllic, with views of Castle Crags lining the way. Dan + Natasha brought about 150 guests and celebrated their wedding there yesterday. Natasha looked ridiculously beautiful and comes from a long line of beautiful women, having a mother who could pass for her sister. She vastly improves the image of a cowboy hat and boots, as you can see! For a great departure from tradition, they had a full S'Mores bar instead of a cake.. mmm! The weather was splendid at around 78 degrees, as opposed to the usual 100 in Redding. Pine-Gri-La is like a fairy-tale village. Every detail is so beautifully put together. And I have serious garden envy -- this place is one giant flower garden. You guys were terrific! I hope you have a wonderful honeymoon and thanks for having me as your photographer!!

Susan + Brandon Wedding .8.13.11 {Fall River Mills Wedding Photographer}

Susan + Brandon were married at Susan's parents beautiful home in Fall River Mills on a balmy Saturday, surrounded by upwards of 500 guests and her family's dazzling display of sunflowers. Susan surprised everyone by appearing for her aisle walk in a beautiful old restored antique truck, wiping tears from her eyes as she made her entrance. And what a stunning entrance she made!! Rather than a formal sit-down dinner, the grounds were laden with tables of appetizers and finger foods... don't think small, think every kind you can imagine, then multiply by 20. The lovliest part: it lasted all night!! Mary and John of Digital Memories shot with me to keep a handle on the stadium-sized crowd and did a fantastic job, as always! The bride sensibly wore blinged-out flats -- a good thing since the dancing got wild and crazy and went on long into the night. I loved being your photographer and wish you two long and happy together-ness!!

What's the first thing you think of when you conjure up a picture of a coupla archaeologists? You know you think of old guys with white hair and beards. I do. Imagine my shock to meet this beautiful couple, who are archaeologists with the Forest Service. Ridiculously young and good looking! What a myth buster! They got married Saturday at the McCloud Guest House in a beautiful ceremony. Leslie was totally chill all day -- such a sweet bride. Speaking of sweet, sweet peas were everywhere, along with lush lawn and oaks and an unfettered glimpse of Mt. Shasta through the trees. They entertained us with a wedding game where the bride and groom each hold one of their own shoes and one of their partner's. Standing back to back, they respond to questions like "Whose mother is the best cook?" by raising the appropriate shoe (presumably they can't see each other). Of course, difficulties inevitably arise when opposing shoes are raised and there are lots of surprises. Hilarious little ritual!! I loved being a part of your day and hope you have a fantastic honeymoon.

Saturday I drove out to Arcata for this fabulous, laid-back, Humboldt-style wedding at the lush and beautiful Fieldbrook Winery. The coast was fogged in and 49 degrees but rapidly grew sunny and warm. Erica left the day mostly unstructured except that she was definitely planning to get married at 12:30. And she was mainly planning on having a really huge party with lots of dancing. She succeeded on all counts! The band was amazing -- I can't say enough about how they kept everyone rocking. They are Eldridge Gravy and the Court Supreme. The appetizers were to die for, all local: oysters with wasabi, baked garlic with goat cheese, and more... I could hardly drag myself away!! There was a funny quiz with ten questions about the couple (our favorite food? what did I leave on his doorstep after our first date?) The lucky winner (8 right) scored a box of candy bars.

Tom and Erica, you are so sweet together and so suited for one another. I got all goosebump-y listening to your vows. I'm so pleased to have been a part of your big day. Warm hugs and wishes to you both!

Michelle + Karl, July 3, 2011 - Hotel De Anza, San Jose Wedding

I met Karl and Michelle about a year ago when they were planning a wedding at the Brovan Ranch in Shingletown. We hit it off immediately and not just because we have the same name. Later, they changed the wedding to San Jose. Could I still come? Definitely! Their wedding took place in the Palm Court of the Hotel De Anza in San Jose. There was a live band and a scrumptious meal prepared by the hotel (poached salmon: YES!). As the hour got late, the party moved about five blocks away to the couple's favorite bar, in which they'd reserved a large party room.

The night before the wedding I was stoked to hear the sounds of a concert down the street -- replete with thousands of screaming fans. I opened my sixth floor window to enjoy the music and heard Don't Stop Believin' and thought OMG -- Journey is playing!! Sadly, the front desk informed me in the morning that it was in fact The Backstreet Boys (now apparently the Backstreet Men), doing not only their old songs (they had some?), but others, like Journey and Coldplay songs. Sheesh.

But I digress.

The coolest thing ever happened during the ceremony: After a heartfelt reading of each of the couple's vows, Michelle was so overcome by emotion that she spontaneously reached for and kissed Karl, to the delight of everyone, though perhaps not the officiant. This occurred not at the expected you may kiss the bride moment but somewhere in the middle of the shortest ceremony ever! We took a little hike across the street to grab some couple shots then returned for more pictures, food, toasts, and dancing.

Your love for each other is so sweetly evident it was delightful to be around both of you. It was also great to see a Shingletown contingent among the guests -- thanks, Brovans, for the walk back to the hotel. Michelle and Karl, I wish you both an amazing future together as husband and wife!!

Jennifer & Justin, Mt. Shasta Resort Wedding June 25, 2011 [Mt. Shasta Wedding Photographer]

What a spectacular wedding Jenn and Justin had at the Mt. Shasta Resort Saturday! Girls got ready in an amazingly beautiful chalet overlooking Lake Siskiyou. Dark clouds threatened us throughout the day and finally delivered toward the end of the evening, effectively rounding everyone up under the tent for dancing. Jenn's cake topper has been in the family for over 80 years -- how cool is that? Their love for each other had them both glowing all day. Justin tries so hard to keep a straight face but did not always succeed. The speeches brought howls of laughter from everyone. Particularly the question "How???" What a majestic setting! Following the rain, a rainbow even appeared. I call that an omen. Best of luck to you both, and thank you for trusting me with your wedding photography!

We take a break in our regularly-scheduled wedding blogging: One year ago today exactly, Nick and Charity wed. (Here.) For their anniversary we took a dip in Whiskeytown Lake today in her wedding dress. Hearty congratulations were offered by passers-by (a word I have likely just made up). Because who doesn't love to see a bride? We were accompanied by Charity's brother and sister, so I can tell you there was some dunking involved. There was also cliff-jumping and precipitously-high rail perching, none of which seemed like a good idea to me. We had great fun, and no bears came. These two can sure look steamy without much coaching -- you can see the sizzle! Nick is not only handsome but helpful, making sure we didn't drown as we worked our way through the fast water. And Charity is just plain gorgeous. Happy anniversary!

First off, let me say: Melissa is a goddess. Her very talented stylist sister arranged her tresses to accentuate her already-stunning looks. Jason's mouth made a perfect "O" when he saw her. They got married yesterday at the Elks Lodge in Redding under balmy skies. The very dear Layne Russell presided. We sneaked away with them for some alone shots and interrupted a baby raccoon on the river trail. Lots of good food and wild dancing followed, with excellent music by Randy of Soundz Familiar. A Hawaiian honeymoon is next. Have a wondrous escape! Double hugs to you both!

You wouldn't believe it could snow, rain, and be sunny all on the same day, and certainly not when it's almost June. But it did. The wind howled! The bride shook with cold! (So did I, with lots more on than her.) The wedding was perfect notwithstanding the iffy weather, by the shore of Lake Siskiyou in Mt. Shasta. Megan used to be a little girl when I first met her. Look what a radiant beauty she has turned out to be! Following the ceremony was a tasty dinner and lots of unrestrained dancing at the Mt. Shasta Community Center. They warned me they liked to party. Good thing I love that part of the festivities! I had a wonderful day and loved shooting you guys. Have a wonderful married life!

We knew we had no right to have a balmy, 81 degree day the first week of February. But there is was. Jennifer and Justin are getting married in June at the Mt. Shasta Resort. Today they drove up from Sacramento to do engagement photos. On Super Bowl Sunday, yet! Fortunately, an early start left us lots of time to still watch Green Bay trounce the Steelers.

There was a lot of laughing in addition to a lot of kissing. It was a fun and relaxed session. Jennifer is going to be a stunning bride. Oh, my!

It is so beautiful in Fall River Mills and Susan and Brandon and I had a fun time winding our way around the family ranch and looking to spot fall color and cool old farm stuff. Dan and Laura had a beautiful Saturday wedding at Ponderosa Ridge Ranch, a venue I love that's close to home. They came down off the mountain (literally) for the occasion --both of them work and live in Lassen Volcanic Park. Their love of the outdoors showed in the natural centerpieces they made. It rained steadily all day but we were determined not to miss the chance to grab some alone time down at the creek. Such a beautiful spot! Thanks for being such a great sport, Laura. :)

Gwen Edwardson did a fantastic job of wedding planning and was everywhere I looked while at the same time being super unobtrusive. I wish she was at every wedding ironing out the details! C. R. Gibbs catered a delicious dinner and possibly the best salad in my life.

There was magical juju in the air Saturday for this beautiful wedding. It was at a venue called "Pine-Gri-La," a secluded getaway in the mountains reminiscent of a cluster of tiny chalets in the Swiss Alps. Having a shared history in Hawaii, Steven and Victoria brought some Hawaiian traditions along, including the haunting sound of the conch shell being sounded before and after the ceremony. This mysteriously evoked tears from everyone and I cannot deny being in that number. Rain came during the ceremony and as elders were lovingly remembered, a bear materialized in the clearing at the edge of the woods. We took photos later in the crumpled grass where he lay. Songs of birds punctuated the ceremony. Deeply felt bonds were strengthened with the passing of a shared glass. I dined on wickedly good wild salmon and a host of desserts I can't even talk about. These two are so in love and so committed to each other. I felt blessed to be their wedding photographer. Thanks to all for a fantastic day.

Finally, a wedding in the rain! The old saying about weddings in the rain bringing good luck must be true ... the rain held off all day, started just in time for the ceremony, then stopping abruptly as soon as the recessional ended. It couldn't dampen anyone's high spirits, however. Katie's dress was amazing, hand-picked by her father, going to show you that some fathers have excellent taste in wedding dresses. I'm not going to tell you what happened to her mother when she saw her in it. I'll let the picture tell you. She looked so stunning. TJ sang a love song to her that was so touching and straight from his heart. We waded off into the bush after the I Do's to grab a little alone time, even though Katie got three million stickers in her dress and it was practically dark out. My stout Nikon gear survived shooting in the rain, though I confess to handily ducking under the edge of a thoughtful guest's umbrella (she was sitting at the end of her row and did have a nice big umbrella). Awesome Austin was cranking out the tunes and young and old alike were hitting the dance floor. I had a blast and thank you for trusting me with your wedding!

Brett + Brandy are married! August 7, 2010 {Chico Wedding Photographer}

Brett and Brandy wed last Saturday at a beautiful private residence in Chico. What a beautiful day! I loved hanging out with them after having such a fun time doing their engagement shoot, here, at the Honey Run Covered Bridge. You can see how perfect they are for each other and their love of family and friends just shines. Brandy's flowers were the luscious old fashioned David Austin roses ... some of the prettiest I've ever seen (and yes, that includes my garden!) The wedding site was glowing with tiny lights and lanterns -- such a romantic backdrop. Brandy looked ridiculously beautiful; you couldn't get the smile off Brett's face all day. Platinum Productions DJ'd and so graciously let me juggle the schedule waiting for the scorching sun to fade to the sweet light for our alone time. The dance floor was rocking long into the night and I had a great time shooting the crazy dancing melee! Thanks so much, Brett and Brandy, for sharing your day with me. I finally got to do a kilt wedding - yay! Hayley & Jonathan got married Saturday at the Arroyo Room in Chico, a lovely venue I hadn't seen in a few years. Yes, they do have air conditioning, though with outside temps over 100 it was tough keeping up in such a large banquet room. Hayley's bridesmaids did a superb job of strategically applying ice packs...if she ever broke a sweat, I couldn't tell. Food was excellent, courtesy of Excalibur Catering...yum! My friend Lisa of As You Like It Weddings officiated -- I'm always so happy to see her. Hayley looked amazing and wore the most exquisite dress. Jon and his guys -- even the littlest ones -- wore kilts.

Chico has so many beautiful places that we didn't need to walk far for our "alone time" -- right across the street for a fast couples session, then back for dancing.

I hope you two have a wonderful honeymoon cruise and a great time at your Utah bash. Thanks for having me as your photographer!

This gorgeous bride is the new sister in law of my 2009 bride Tawny and the newest addition to the O'Berg family. And what a cool family! Who needs a venue when you have an amazing house like this? The whole place was strung with bazillions of small twinkly lights which I love -- they're such a beautiful backdrop when the sun goes down. Actually, for a while I was pretty sure the sun was never going down; it topped out at 103 yesterday. That's hardcore wedding photography, Redding style! We sneaked away from the crowd for some alone time and Charity climbed over a gate in her wedding dress -- quite a sight! It was a perfect day and I felt blessed to be along. I'm holding out for that last O'Berg to walk the aisle! Hugs to all of you and have a blast in Mexico!

Kirsten and Aaron happen to have the coolest aunt ever, Karen Lytle, who owns the ranch across the road from TBS and has a carriage service and a stable of beautiful horses. Kirsten's favorite horse was brought over for a photo opp before the wedding and what a beautiful picture it was - pretty bride and beautiful horse. These two were fun-loving and up for anything, despite the smoldering temperatures outside. I loved the decorations and bridesmaids' dresses in aqua. This bridal party knew how to get down and the dance floor was smokin'! I had a great time hanging out with you guys and thank you so much for the chance to photograph your beautiful wedding.

Seems like my couples keep testing me by getting married where they know I will be sorely tempted to bring my fly rod and sneak in some trout fishing. This private home, the Boyd Ranch, had Hat Creek running through it and was just paradise. Anna and Coby are a gorgeous couple. Coby's father gave the couple their vows and he did not get very far without choking up, which of course has a ripple effect on everyone present. I had a great day and wish you both much happiness!

Clint & Margaret said their vows in Fall River Mills where they met at a friend's wedding. The setting was the beautiful Albaugh Ranch set amid rolling pastures and snow-capped mountains. 300+ guests assembled and the weather was really spectacular. Margaret brilliantly thought up a mini- bridal boudoir before donning her dress. It made for a lot of fun and a great change of pace. A beautifully appointed classic car fetched her around smartly and her and Clint obliged me by allowing me to drag them off for a couple quickie mini-shoots when I liked the look of the fading evening light. We dined sumptiously on local tri-tip, salads, rice - pretty much everything from Fall River Mills. That reminds me, I need to get up here more often to do some fly fishing...the Fall River is amazing and just a short drive for me. I had a wonderful day and congratulations to you both on your beautiful wedding!

Heather & Kraig's Wedding Carnival! {Red Bluff Wedding Photographer}

This super fun wedding was such a departure from the usual in every way. I should have seen this coming ... they did warn me they were turning their wedding into a carnival, but somehow I didn't really believe them. Heather looked outrageously pretty and was just SOOO calm she should start giving workshops on pre-wedding calm. These guys didn't even rehearse. When Heather swept up the aisle with her father, the guests rose and as one, began singing Here Comes the Bride -- with no accompaniment whatsoever. It was magic. Full-on carnival games followed. Food was scrumptious and many heartfelt toasts were made before the rowdy dancing commenced. Thanks so much for sharing the day with me. I wish you many years of carnivals together!

12 days ago, baby Jaxon made his entrance into the world. I've been anxiously awaiting his arrival, along with a lot of other people, most particularly his parents, Laura and Derrek. He was very cooperative with being posed, pulled and prodded for a couple hours and didn't seem to miss his nap much. Of course, I balked at any photography at all until I'd had a nice long cuddle session and kissed the poor child silly. But what can you do? He's just so cute and tiny. I even caught an actual smile. Oh yes, it was. Don't even try to tell me it was something else. I'm not buying. I love watching Laura and Derrek's family grow and feel privileged to share part of it with them.

100 Blog Posts, and a Cool New Wedding Venue.

As I posted this I realized this was my 100th blog post. Woo hoo! Saturday I shot with Mary and John of Digital Memories and was itching to see a new wedding venue not too far from me off Dersch Road called Ponderosa Ridge Ranch. It was really something special. It boasts the oldest standing house in Shasta County. Rolling pastures covered in wildflowers lead to panoramic views of Mt. Lassen. Beautiful horses grazing. The house is brimming with amazing antiques - the real thing, not something contrived. Flowers everywhere. The venue comes with its own horse-drawn carriage, handsomely turned out to fetch the bridal party around. There's a huge barn, a gazebo, covered dancing area, double swing, and seating area alongside a cool rushing creek. It is a pretty special place. This is their second year hosting weddings. Brides who haven't chosen a venue yet, check them out!

Brett & Brandy Engagement

Brett and Brandy led me to the Honeyrun Covered Bridge outside of Chico on Sunday for their e-session. Such a perfect spring day! Brandy tried hard to out-blink me, but could not survive the onslaught of my three-gazillion frames-per-second Nikons, which won out in the end and caught her repeatedly with her eyes open. Her and Brett are so sweet together. Their names even sound like they should get married, don't you think? They even brought me bottled water. Brett may just now be getting feeling back in his feet after gamely wading in the freezing cold creek. I really had fun and am so excited to shoot your wedding. This is Heather and Kraig, who are getting married in May. We decided the spring weather was just too good to pass up and got together for an engagement shoot at the Redding River Trail. It was a perfect day! We walked so far it should have been called an engagement hike. They were great sports and even brought extra water along, which I appreciated. I'm excited to shoot their wedding in May.

L's Boudoir ...

The beautiful and sultry L wished for a racy little boudoir session for her husband for Valentines Day. I joined Mary of Digital Memories and we stalked L's house until her husband (finally!) drove off. I can tell you that L's initial nervousness was dispelled right away and replaced by laughter .. in fact, we had to make ourselves stop laughing long enough to get some rawr pictures. However, as gorgeous as L is, hawt pictures were pretty easy to come up with, as you can see. Thanks for letting us shoot you ... we had a blast and you looked fantastic!

Sandy and Tony are proof that falling in love is ageless. This delightful couple said their vows at the Redding Moose Lodge the day before Valentine's. A truly wonderful couple and a great party, complete with ridiculously cute kids. The band was great and the food first-rate. Jammin' at the Foothill Winter Semi-Formal

It's a bleak time of year for wedding photos. I'm upgrading gear, computer house-cleaning, and fairly itching to shoot something! My daughter Georgia and a couple friends got ready here last night for the annual semi-formal. Unfortunately for them, they fell into my crosshairs. She's the one in the black and white. I'm losing her to college this fall. How'd that happen??

Julie & Cole, October 16 {Chico Wedding Photographer}

Julie and Cole said their I do's at the Chico Women's Club a couple of weeks ago in an intimate and relaxed ceremony. I have never shot there before and adored the old spanish-style architectural touches. It made a great backdrop for the quickie 10 minutes or so of "alone time" we sneaked in. We kept it short and sweet -- after all, guests can only be mollified so long with food and drink. You know who they all came to see. And -- speaking of her -- Julie looked totally radiant. Can you see how Cole feels about her by the way he looks at her below? You can also see tears shimmering in her eyes. Sometimes, in his. I just love love. Food was scrumptious, their precious children were nothing short of angelic.

Krystal-Rae and Kevin pronounced their vows at a beautiful private ranch in Palo Cedro on this perfect fall day. Without their dog, which I was secretly hoping would be at least a ringbearer. They are just the cutest couple. Krystal-Rae is not only quite lovely, but shamelessly toned. This was the first time I have ever seen a bride in full regalia execute a perfect cartwheel. Actually, several. And Kevin is just as cute with his boyish mop of hair and ever-present grin. We sneaked off to the pond for some almost-alone time and their photos are really magical. I loved the bazillions of tiny twinkly lights everywhere, so major props to the kind hosts of this beautiful ranch for the starry decor ... such a dazzling backdrop.

I don't know when I have ever seen a more beautiful and palatial private home than this one in Chico for this beautiful wedding which was held on October 3 in Chico. Beautiful twinking tiny lights strung on swaying palm trees! Awesome food! Wonderful friends! Clearly no venue could have held a candle to this place. The couple honeymooned in Egypt and rumor has it they've returned and had a wonderful time. I sure enjoyed your wedding in spite of the gale-force winds that threatened to blow down the place toward the end of the evening. It didn't even put a dent in the revelry. Trashing the Dress with an Uninvited Guest. {Trash the Dress Photographer}

Laura and I have been meaning to trash her dress since her amazing wedding clear back in June and finally got around to it on Sunday. As we waded in the chilly water of the creek striking one sultry pose after another, I kept hearing crashing noises in the forest right next to us, though the place was deserted. It made me skittish as I'm a little afraid of mountain lions, which is of course silly since I'd probably never hear a mountain lion. We kept on until giant branches started crashing down in our immediate vicinity and finally had the presence of mind to look up, to find a huge California black bear perched in a tree above us. As he climbed, giant branches would break off and crash down. I have never seen a bride flee a location so fast. She and her friend fairly flew to the far bank! Having no better sense, I crept closer and shot photos, though I admit my hands shook. Shortly the bear began climbing down and did so with amazing speed and lack of concern for me. That was my clue to evacuate as well. We soon saw his obvious goal - large pools of spawning fall run salmon. We decided we'd shot enough in the creek for the day and left it to him. We did have time for some beautiful photos and seriously, how many people get a bear in their Trash the Dress shoot? By the way, Laura is a little over two months along with her first baby and I'm so excited for her and Derrek!!

Regard the Class of 2010, Foothill High! A photogenic bunch, wouldn't you say? Owing to the number of outstanding senior portrait photographers in the area, I rarely shoot seniors and typically only shoot weddings. But this year my daughter and many of her friends became seniors and I've been shooting most of them for years anyway. So, like my daughter, they waited until about five minutes ago to get theirs done. Don't they look great?

This was a beautiful wedding at Turtle Bay in the outdoor amphitheatre. It was cool getting ready in the large and rustic Turtle Bay exhibit rooms. James and Kristina met while waltzing, so a pre-wedding waltz practice took place at the same place where they met. I have to say, they are serious waltzers and it's pretty fun to watch. Having two left feet, I was happy to watch from the sidelines. The reception was at Gold Hills, with delicious food and more dancing and a DJ outside. The teddy bear cake topper was inherited from Mom, and grandpa wrote a little note to the couple and delivered it to them at the head table. He's 95, fit, and seemed to be having great fun, as did everyone. Many happy wishes to you both!

Kasey & Anthony are getting married next year at the Riverview Golf & Country Club in Redding. It's a gorgeous venue right beside the Sacramento river. So it was only fitting that we did engagement photos at the Sacramento river Sunday. The heat was somewhere close to blistering, but our couple kept their cool and we hunted for shade shamelessly. Warning: I'm going to boast shamelessly and force you to see pictures of my amazingly beautiful daughter. I'm a parent, I can't help it. Yesterday we shot my daughter's senior pictures. We tried to find a place to hide from the blazing sun but it was tough. We tried to scale a locomotive, only to find it occupied. We settled on Library Park in Redding where there was at least a tiny bit of shade.

When you look this good, you can pose next to a dumpster and it still looks good. Go ahead and laugh, but we really did that. She held her breath.

Yesterday was unseasonably cool - in the 80's or something, and cloudy. My beautiful summer bride Tawny decided to trash her dress so off we went to Brandy Creek. She was a great sport and there wasn't anything she wouldn't do, except that by the end of our time together she had some serious goosebumps. Why trash one dress when you can trash several at once? That's what we did yesterday, spending a couple cool hours wading in the creek while precariously holding aloft a small fortune in camera gear. How fun were these guys? They were so fun that I can't even show you all the pictures, that's how fun. I had an invite from Mary and John of Digital Memories and didn't need asked twice. Mary just shot the wedding of Denise; when the "Trash the Dress" subject came up, the daughters-in-law Megan and Tracy broke out their gowns and made it a family affair, complete with beautiful little girls and a couple husbands in tow. Aren't these some gorgeous girls? A couple of campers whose creekside spot site we were monopolizing watched with great interest. And no wonder!!

That's Just the Way It Is... Bruce Hornsby at the Cascade, Redding, California

Last night I had a chance to see Bruce Hornsby perform solo at the Cascade Theatre in Redding. He is a piano virtuoso. "The Way It Is" and most every track on that album made me into a Hornsby fan long ago. He played a lot of new songs and is more jazz and blues oriented than before, with a little bluegrass thrown in for good measure. He did indulge us by playing The Way It Is but it was so totally re-worked to suit his evolved style that only the piano was familiar. He mentioned early on he'd take requests, all except for one song. Naturally, I blurted out a request for "Every Little Kiss." Oops. That was the song. Though later he obliged, the original suited me better. To be fair to him, though, I'm that way - I always prefer the original. Our seats gave an excellent view of the piano, where he is as masterful as ever.

What a spectacular setting for this wedding - in the shadow of Mt. Shasta at the Mt. Shasta Resort. I had the unique pleasure of photographing Bobby and Summer's wedding in this beautiful setting a couple weekends ago and am finally getting some highlights up. Summer looked both classy and beautiful. There were lots of tears - of the happiness kind! The reception room was most times lit with tiny candles and decorated beautifully. There is only one way to trash the dress when it's over 100 outside. Find water, get in, and stay in. I joined Mary and John of Digital Memories to shoot Sonya's Trash the Dress session last night at Brandy Creek. Sonya was game for anything and completely at ease working her way through the rocks and riffles. Doesn't she look outrageously hawt? She plans to clean and preserve her gown and frankly; you needn't demolish it to have fun.

These two are such a cute couple. My only wish for this wedding would be that I could do it over again without crying. I see lots of weddings and you'd think it wouldn't get to me, but there you go. Add close families and strong emotions and you have a wedding photographer surreptitiously swiping away tears right along with everyone else. This wedding took place at the Senior Citizens Center in Redding and I've never seen it decorated so beautifully! Tawny and Brian are hockey players and had a few surprises in store as the day went on. Instead of throwing the garter, Brian busted out a hockey stick and whacked it airborne to the crowd. Instead of smashing cake into each other's faces, the newlywed couple unexpectedly turned on their bridal party to plaster cake on them as payback for the bride being thrown in the pool at her bachelorette party. What a fun bunch!!! I had a blast. I wish you two long and happy lives together!

Kent and Katie are just the most beautiful couple. They came down from Iowa to wed at a lush private home along the Sacramento river south of Mt. Shasta. I could see Castle Crags in the distance. The day was blazing hot, but so what? Katie looked like Snow White -- just perfectly beautiful. The wedding party was lots of fun and up for just about anything.

It takes a leap of faith to hire a wedding photographer sight unseen, but that's just what they did. I treasure that trust and don't take it lightly.

There were very few dry eyes when they read each other the most touching vows at the altar. Ditto on the father-daughter and mother-son dances. We had a wonderful day and there are so many amazing photos. Picking a handful is tough!

You didn't have to ask me twice to go to the coast this weekend and photograph this beautiful couple marrying on the water's edge. Trinidad weddings have the added bonus of a break from the 100-degree heat -- Redding was fairly roasting when I left. Theirs was a small affair with close friends and family, with a reception set for later on closer to home. Rachel was really looking forward to some "alone time" photos on the ocean. Meet the beautiful Lizzie and her fiance Eric. They are set to wed in June next year.

These guys have the distinction of braving the hottest e-session ever. Gamely! We didn't just stand around but hiked all over the park at Old Shasta and next, Whiskeytown and Brandy Creek. By that time the cool creek water felt good. It was over 100 out, so we sought shade where we could find it. The tempting smells of summer barbeque drifted past. We joked that someone might feel sorry for us and offer us a hamburger off the grill, but none materialized.

Saturday I photographed the wedding of Katie and Perry at the Gaia Hotel in Anderson. What an amazing venue -- it's more like a park than a hotel! Katie is a school teacher and as delightful as anyone you'd ever want to meet.. She is so lovely that I'm betting all her students have a crush on her!

The hairdresser who was scheduled to come to the hotel and do hair and makeup pulled a no-show ... enough to turn anyone into a bridezilla on their wedding day! Not Katie, however. She landed another couple of salons to accommodate the wedding party and breezed through the morning without even a hint of a meltdown. Now that's nerves of steel!

Saturday's weather was amazing and warm - perfect wedding weather! Both families were wonderful, and the food was first rate. The dancing was very crazy and let-down-your hair wild -- I loved photographing it.

What a way to start the 2009 wedding season!

Sonja and James Engagement Shoot

In yesterday's balmy spring weather, I got to go shoot with my two favorite friends, Mary and John of Digital Memories Photography. I love those guys so much. I've almost got John converted to 100% Nikon. Almost. Resistance is futile. Anyway, we did an e-session for their amazing couple Sonja and James from French Gulch, my old stomping grounds. We started at the Old Shasta Ruins - a favorite spot of mine, except it's undergone a spiffing-up and shoring up which unfortunately ruined the annual poppy display and the cool graffiti is painted over. :( No matter, these two were so amazing to photograph you could have put them next to a pile of rocks and they'd shine. We wound up at the Redding river trail. Best of luck to you two and thanks for the invite! :)

NVCSS Volunteer Appreciation Night

My mom volunteers for Redding's coolest thrift shop, Second Time Around - sponsored by NVCSS, which stands for North Valley Catholic Social Service. I can't tell you how many cool things they do for the community. Every year I go to their annual volunteer appreciation dinner with my mom. Some of these ladies (not least of all my mom) are just amazing, and have been volunteering for decades. Even into their 90's! It's appreciated.

Bridal Shower for almost-married Jessica!

First off, I got invited as a guest. Not as a photographer. But, who could resist a few shots? Jessica got a trial run of her hairdo for the big day, and it is gorgeous!! I got to meet her friends and her mom, and eat lots of delicious food. There was a bridal cake pinata - lots of fun blindfolded. There was a frog-kissing session, with hysterical results. Jessica's wedding is in May and I'm really looking forward to it!

I swore I wouldn't turn into one of those parents who boasts about their child until everyone around them falls unconscious.

Well, except maybe this once.

My daughter Georgia has the math gene, though she denies this. She's a huge fan of Pi - the number without end - and her class celebrated National Pi Day on March 14. She sees strings of numbers as pictures in her head, and when the class was assigned the task of memorizing Pi to 30 digits, she became fascinated and kept going. And going. And going. She's at 700+ and finds it calming.

That's my girl.

Jim & Jolyn Engagement Session

Jim and Jolyn will be getting married at the TBS Ranch in Palo Cedro in November. I got to meet them Sunday and spend a couple hours strolling around with them at their ranch in Princeton (that's California, not New Jersey!). They're rice farmers and have a beautiful place they share with a couple zany dogs who got in on the photography act as often as possible. Now, I thought it was pretty cool to learn they were rice farmers, because I just happen to live in a rice straw bale home. We had a fun and relaxed time and they're going to be an awesome bride and groom. They obliged me by stopping not only for wildflowers but for Ducks Plucked Here signs and other off-the-beaten-path random photo spots. Anselmo Vineyards...A beautiful new wedding venue in Shingletown

My friend Angela from the Weston House Bed & Breakfast told me about a new winery opening right down the road from me which would soon be doing weddings. I took a little hike around and loved the atmosphere. It's the genuine article -- you can take horseback rides and they raise prime cattle in addition to bottling up some amazing and award-winning wines. Brides looking for a venue that hasn't been booked up yet might take a little drive up Highway 44 toward Lassen and check out Anselmo Vineyards. Here's some quick shots, with lots more on their website. The owner and staff are warm and friendly the wine will definitely make you want to linger!

Well, it's not quite Christmas but it sure felt like Christmas at this beautiful wedding of this really cool couple in Red Bluff on Saturday at the First Christian Church. These two have been in love with each other since they were practically toddlers, and it shows!! I had a fantastic time following the bridal party around and even got to duck in to the River House in Red Bluff for a sneak peak at the night's accommodations, which were truly beautiful. Katie & Perry Engagement Shoot, Nov. 30, 2008

Sunday I met up with Katie and Perry from Alturas to to an e-session for their upcoming April '09 wedding. They kindly drove down to take advantage of the balmy Redding weather and it did not disappoint! Katie's a teacher and Perry's a high-tech farmer who likes to fly. I don't think Katie has worked her nerve up to fly with him yet but it can only be a matter of time.

Katie is such a sweet person that I can just imagine her students adore her. And it is clear that Perry does!

We had so much fun it just didn't seem like work. The only problem was that the weather was so gorgeous that everyone in Redding decided to come to the river, making all my secret spots not so secret any more. No matter -- we all had our hiking boots on (well, except for my Crocs!) and soldiered on, finding great spots wherever we happened upon them.

You two have an awesome sense of humor and were great sports. Once again, I can't seem to shake this beautiful bride streak, but I'm not complaining. I'm looking forward to shooting your April festivities at the beautiful Gaia Hotel next year. :)

Rachael & Jason Engagement Session, Nov. 26, 2008, Chico

Is it me, or has anyone else noticed that beautiful brides are just coming out of the woodwork lately? Holy cats! I just met Rachael and Jason yesterday and for a second or two I thought maybe I was shooting for the next issue of Bride magazine!! Also, I tried to trade trucks with them, but had no luck with that. On top of being an amazing-looking couple, they were really down to earth and fun and up for just about anything. How lucky am I? I get the coolest couples!! Hiking in stiletto heels? No problem. Leaf-throwing battle? No problem.

We toured all the cool places around Bidwell Mansion in Chico. The weather, which had been threatening rain, stayed mellow. Trees you wouldn't think could possibly still have fall color did. Rachael knew all the great spots -- these guys are Chico natives yearning for home, and will soon return. They treated me to some excellent Mexican food for lunch. They will wed in September at TJ Farms, and I am thrilled to be shooting their wedding. Here are a few of my favorite shots from their session. Congratulations, Rachael and Jason! :)

Denise & Billy, Nov. 15 Wedding, Hollister

It's not often that I get to photograph a daughter's wedding and her mom's wedding all in the same year, but this year I did, as Denise is the mom of new bride Candice from earlier this year. I'm so glad I got to go to Hollister and join in the festivities! Denise and Billy were fun, down-to-earth people. They were joined by a gaggle of friends and well-wishers, many of whom were off-road motorcycle enthusiasts. I got to hear some really funny stories of how they met!

The Ridgemark Golf & Country Club is a gorgeous setting for a wedding. When they planned their wedding they had no idea November would bring such a balmy and perfect day or they would have planned it outdoors. The rooms were sumptious and the food delicious. Thanks for making me part of your wonderful day!

Erik only recently got out of a leg cast, so I was a little nervous about whether he'd be up for traipsing around the river trail on Monday, but I'm happy to report he was up for it and a great sport to boot! He and his bride-to-be Jessica will wed next year in May, and I can't wait! Jessica is a beautiful person inside and out and a breast cancer survivor, having had invasive breast cancer at the tender age of 19. She's an amazing and tireless activist, and she's my hero. Thanks, you two, for a great afternoon!

Laura & Derrek Engagement Session, 10-15-08

Wednesday we trekked the Sacramento River Trail in search of some pretty places for engagement photos. Although it was a bit early for fall colors, we weren't a bit disappointed - the weather was spectacular, the sky was blue, and Laura and Derrek were the very soul of cooperation, as you can see by the photos below. Any pre-shoot jitters were quickly dispelled by laughter -- in fact, we had difficulty taking any photos with a straight face!! :) I'm really excited to do this wedding and to have an awesome dress-trashing photo shoot afterward. You guys did great!

The Shasta Dragonwood Celtic Renaissance Faire

Yesterday I spent the afternoon wandering around the Anderson River Park for my first-ever Renaissance Faire. What a blast! My daughter - a handmaiden - informed me that next year I really must dress up. There was so much to take in! An riveting sight was the Giant and the Dragon and the fire-breathing contest regularly waged between them, to onlookers' delight! There were jugglers wielding knives and flaming torches, vendors plying delicious food of Renaissance and modern times, and excellent Celtic and Irish music. I spoke with lots of people whose accents were simply remarkable. The rainy weather of Saturday gave way to a beautiful day Sunday and hopefully a great crowd for everyone who put on this fun event. Here's a few highlights to enjoy!

Amber and Jesse made their vows on Saturday, September 13, 2007 at the beautiful Frasinetti Winery in Sacramento. They're a Navy couple, so I was treated to a rousing rendition of "In the Navy" on the dance floor -- which persuaded me to stay even longer for some cool dance photos. The wedding, venue, and food were awesome and Amber and Jesse and their families and attendants fun and friendly. I even got to hear some much-missed southern accents, which made me homesick! :) I wish them a fun-filled honeymoon and happy life together!

Matt and Lindsay got married yesterday at the beautiful White Ranch in Chico, California - a truly pastoral place for a wedding. The weather cooled, mild breezes blew, and the setting was just perfect. This was no small event -- some 250 people lined up to see Matt and Lindsay make their vows.

It was a treat to see past bride Lisa -- now a bridesmaid! -- in the wedding party. Also her parents, as well as Oliver. :-)

Lindsay was up for almost anything we could dream up together to photograph. Some of the best shots, as always, just happened. When she went to pet the donkeys across the fence, they tried to eat her bridal bouquet. The groomsmen, ever-energetic, competed with one another to see who could catch the most air. The place was seriously rocking hard when we took our leave around 10:30; the newlyweds rarely left the dance floor that I saw.

We enjoyed ourselves very much, and wish to thank not only Lindsay and Matt for allowing us to be a part of their day but also Lindsay's parents Gary and Cindy for allowing us to roam about their home all afternoon photographing the preparations and following the bridal party about. Matt and Lindsay, the best of luck to you both in your lives together!

Jenn & Marcel Wedding, Los Altos - Aug 9, 2008

Congratulations go to Jenn and Marcel on their wonderful, relaxed and carefree wedding which I had the pleasure of photographing this past Saturday at Jenn's parents' beautiful home in Fremont.

I'm told that a year ago the back yard was "just" a back yard, though to see it now you'd never know. The place was decked out. I've never seen such a beautiful gazebo nor one so beautifully decorated with flowers. Awesome work from the flower ladies, Perfect Petals of Los Altos. Food, ambiance and music were first rate.

Jenn is my kind of girl, dispensing with high heels in favor of comfy sandals. Marcel and his guys donned sporty island dress and sandals. Their huge, combined families were obviously enjoying each other very much and the kids were so entertaining that they got their own folder of photographs. I really enjoyed my day with all of you. Thanks for the hospitality, the offer of the overnight stay, and the chance to photograph your day. I'll be looking forward to making your album!

Amanda & Zach Wedding, Aug. 2, Elk Grove, CA

Congratulations to Amanda and Zach of Elk Grove on their beautiful wedding from this past Saturday.

This was a really fun wedding and we enjoyed every minute of it.

Amanda's dress was not one you'll ever see on the racks anywhere: it was handmade by her amazing mom. As you can see by the photo below, it was shimmery satin and just beautiful. Thanks for allowing me to run rampant through your home to find the perfect window to hang it from!

The DJ, Derwin & Elizabeth Terry of Behind the Scene Sounds -- played fantastic music and never had a down moment all night. You couldn't not dance. Highly recommended!

Lisa & Oliver Wedding, 7-12-08 {Chico Wedding Photographer]

Congratulations to Lisa and Oliver, who got married on Saturday at Oliver's beautiful family home in Stilson Canyon in Chico, California. Lisa was a beautiful bride and a treat to photograph, as were her best girls -- one of whom I get to photograph getting married next month in Chico. Lisa and Oliver give you the feeling of such deep commitment to each other and have such wonderful and loving families and friends.

The smoke from our recent forest fires which have plagued northern California relented a bit and visibility was pretty good for us. It was even cooler than in recent days. You couldn't ask for a more perfect wedding day.

An amazing amount of work was done by Oliver's family cleaning out a beautiful, rustic barn on the property for the reception site and it was just a miraculous transformation. I can't imagine doing it justice in photos. It was strung every which way with festive lights and decorations. What a backdrop!

My excellent friends Mary and John of Digital Memories stopped in for a while and set up to shoot video of the ceremony (a total surprise!) as well as shooting some stills of the ceremony and formals with us. I love those guys!! Thanks, Mary and John! :-)

I just had to blog a couple photos of the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom. Are these just a stunning couple of moms, or what??

I'm a few days into editing the photos and hope to have them done within the next several days. I just couldn't wait any longer to post them on the blog!

Favorite Album Pages...David & Andrea, 6-7-08

I'm a fool for beautiful wedding albums.

That's why I can't bear the thought of anyone not having one, and include one in all my packages.

I do an initial draft of the album and present it to my couples, usually within a couple weeks of their wedding. They review it online and give me feedback as to what they love, any photos they want switched, any extra pages they'd like added, and so on.

Here are some of my favorite pages from Andrea and David's album from their wedding a few weeks ago in Redding. They are an awesome couple!! Only a couple minor tweaks remain and the album is off for publishing. I can't wait!

Welcome, Baby Nolan! Lifestyle Session 6-25-08

I've been beside myself for a chance to see this little guy, born just TWO days ago to my dear, awesome friend JENNIFER!!! He joins brothers Mauricio and Austin and big sis Ciara. I'd have gladly gone to the hospital to photograph his entry into this world, but the northern California wildfires kept me on evacuation alert and without power during the debut, so I had to settle for waiting until he returned home. However, as you can see for yourself, he was worth the wait. What a cutie!!

I realize I may be a bit optimistic, but I could swear he is already smiling at two days. Anyone ever heard of such a thing? Doesn't that look like a smile to you? Jennifer looks radiant -- I accused her of picking the baby out at the store somewhere, but she denies it.

Crystal & Family..Lifestyle Session June 19, 2008

Thursday I got a chance to do a family session with a wonderful bride of mine from last year -- Crystal ... if she looks familiar, that's because you might have seen her here. We met up at the Anderson River Park for a little family photo fun. I got to meet her dad Brett and her grandma Florence, in addition to seeing her lovely sis Jennifer again. Also, I got to try, and I do emphasize try, to keep up with her nephews Hunter (1) and Cullen (3) -- that was easier said than done!!

Crystal is totally a doting aunt and her nephews call her "Auntie" -- which comes out "Annie." It is so cute.

The boys were even very patient with the sitting-still part of the photography but were thrilled to be finally turned loose on the playground. Swings and sliding boards make great photo opportunities, too, fortunately!

We had a great time, even managing to find shady spots most of the morning to escape the blazing Redding sun.

Adam & Raina Wedding, May 30, 2008

First, let me say that this must be one of the most beautiful venues I have ever photographed --- the Lazy K Ranch in Whitmore, California... just WOW!! Adam and his beautiful bride Raina tied the knot there on May 30 under brilliant skies against a backdrop of shimmering mountain lake and billowing clouds. Who could ask for a more picturesque setting? Thanks to the higher elevation, the weather was warm but never hot. Shooting for my awesome friends, main photogs Mary and John of Digital Memories -- thanks, Mary and John -- you guys ROCK!! Raina and Adam, you two are a gorgeous couple and I wish you the very best future together!!

Andrea & David Wedding, June 7, 2008 [Redding Wedding Photographer}

I had the pleasure of photographing Andrea and David's vows at the First Presbyterian Church in Redding, California on Saturday, June 7, 2007.

We had such a great time hanging out together, starting at the hair salon in the morning. Andrea's girlfriends were super nice - one was from Prague and had a fantastic accent and offbeat sense of humour. We loved Mom Joanne also, who looks young enough she might be mistaken for Andrea's older sister.

This church had the most heavenly dressing room ever. Oh my gosh, did I just really say that??!! Anyway. It was huge! Such a treat after the usual cramped quarters. I nearly did somersaults of joy! The room is beautiful even if nothing was happening in it, let alone a bevy of gorgeous women putting on bridal finery! I was in photography heaven! (There I go again!!) Even a bit of rick-rack here and there couldn't detract from the painterly quality of the walls, the floor, and the quality of the light.

Of course I wished for more time with them but their guests weren't having any of it, so I took what I could get. Their love for each other just shines.

I wish you both much everlasting-ness!!

Welcome, Baby Lizzie!!

And here at last is little Lizzie. She was just the sweetest baby, showing lots of smiles and interest -- well, until she got hungry, and didn't fail to let us know!! I remember stressing over taking photos of my own baby and worrying over her crying, only to realize many years later that even the photos of her crying were precious to me!! Who'da thunk?!! As you can see, she is lavished with love and will not be found wanting for attention, and is the apple of her father's eye!!

Big brother Daytin is never far away and Mandie makes sure he never feels left out of the family circle. He clearly dotes on his baby sister too and was just fascinated to see himself in the back of my Nikon!

P.S. Hurry back to Redding, Mandie!!

Today's Bride=Tomorrow's New Mom

OK, well...maybe not quite that fast, but it sure seemed like just the other day...!

The gorgeous, and I do mean gorgeous!! -- bride whose photo adorns the top of this blog, was wed last year at the beautiful and majestic Burney Falls. I was pretty sure she was daft at the time to plan a wedding under the spray of a gigantic waterfall in uncertain fall weather, but in fact everything worked out perfectly!! Sadly, she moved to Idaho shortly afterward. We've stayed in touch and she promised to contact me for photos the moment she returned to Redding. And now, she's back for a visit with her brand-new baby GIRL!! She already has a darling baby boy, Daytin... He's now an official Big Brother! On Sunday, I get my first peek and a baby photo session. I already know I'll have a smash-up time as I adore her entire family.

Wedding photography is such a great opportunity to get to know not only the bride and groom but their whole extended families, and to build relationships that last as their families grow. Stay tuned for pictures of baby Elizabeth!!

How Dare They? (Keep growing up, that is!)

The beautiful young lady pictured immediately below is my daughter, and just attended her second Prom.

I might be a bit biased in thinking she's the most beautiful girl anywhere, but I expect you'll forgive me.

I don't get to keep her close much longer before college claims her, and a career saving the world's oceans.

She and friend Sammie teamed up to attend the Foothill Junior Senior Prom where the theme was a James Bond look -- "Diamonds are Forever."

First, however, a stop at Bella Salon and Spa for a sleek James Bond-ish 'do and all the trimmings. If you're in Shingletown, stop by and see them. They're not only good but outrageously funny.

As you can see, the camera loves them both!

Lifestyle Shoot - Baby Ava!!!

Oh, my goodness.

All you people with baby girls out there --just forget paying me, I'm going to start paying you. There, I've said it. That's how much fun I had photographing baby Ava yesterday. She knew I was coming, and she was waiting. We explored every nook of her country property. She showed me all her flowers, and her secret paths and hiding places. She introduced me to Boo Baby. She donned camo and hid in the irises. She was such a whirlwind of movement that she paid very little attention to the camera! You had to move very fast -- once something was done, it was very unlikely to be repeated. Begging and cajoling were to no avail!

We had a wonderful couple of hours together and I hope we get to visit again soon!

Favorite Album Pages...Candice & Sean, 4-26-08

I am so excited to have finished putting together a beautiful album for Candice and Sean! And ahead of my two week schedule, in spite of a brief detour to Reno last weekend to see my favorite band in the world, Rush! May I briefly add that Neil Peart is the smoking-hottest drummer on the earth? If you haven't bought Snakes & Arrows yet, please go do so right now.

Candice has given me awesome input on the album, which I've gladly welcomed!! In fact, one of the pages she changed has become my favorite page (see first image, below). It features a page-dominating shot of the back of her gorgeous red dress!! Some album pages are a beautiful collage of related shots. Others, like the second page below, are a single, dramatic shot spanning the width of two pages. Most importantly, my couples themselves are a key part of the wedding album process. After all, you're going to be looking at it for a long, long time and I want you to love it!

Wedding of Candice & Sean, 4-26-08

As Candice and Sean head off on their honeymoon, I'm sneaking a handful of photos from yesterday onto my blog in hopes they got that laptop they were waiting for! We had a marvelous time at your wedding! Candice, who knew you were such a dancer?! You know your photographers are having a good time when they can't help dancing, although I am blaming the DJ for spinning "Play That Funky Music White Boy." This was a beautiful wedding at the Redding Elks Lodge, where spring is bursting out, the scenery is lush, and the Sacramento river is in view. What a gorgeous setting! I loved meeting your respective families and hope I'm shooting your Mom's wedding soon! Thanks for trusting us with your wedding photography. :-)

Second Annual Love Your Pet Expo!!

I had the pleasure of photographing the second annual Love-Your-Pet Expo at the Shasta District Fairgrounds a few weeks ago. What a thrill! It's one of those events that is so much fun, you really HATE being tied to your booth!! I got to take some amazing pet shots, especially the shots below, for funniest pet outfit. I got to meet an amazing pair of dogs that does hospice visiting, bringing what must be unimaginable comfort and smiles to many. (See the pair in the stroller, below!)

Also, I learned for the first time about the sport of flyball racing from the Gold Coast Flyers, a really cool team who delighted everyone with their amazing team of talented dogs. The dogs race down a course, jumping obstacles as they go, hit a box at the end, grab a ball from the box, whirl, and race back the way they came. They must ignore many distractions along the way. (Well, that's the plan, anyway!) I have to tell you, I nearly abandoned my booth, I was so fascinated!

A great deal of money is raised for animal welfare groups through this event, and many thanks go to the organizers and the vendors!

Vacation to Oregon Coast

Even photographers go on vacation, although they refuse to go anywhere that's not scenic. Of course, when you're a photographer, EVERYWHERE is scenic....!! So, over spring break we took a little car trip to Florence, Oregon to see good friends Linda and David. Despite a gloomy forecast, the weather cooperated and we had a wonderful time. Linda has a "Maine Coon" cat which is schizophrenic -- one moment it purrs contentedly -- the next, it inexplicably shrieks in rage and tries to kill you.

The Oregon coast is rugged and beautiful and I could have spent days just photographing the dunes.

My daughter loves the ocean madly and runs headlong into it, heedless of the frigid water. I cradle my precious Nikons and keep back a safe distance from the "sneaker" waves!

Sporty Foothill Students!

I have been really busy lately so am very remiss about updating my blog. Plus, I confess I'm a little lazy about posting my non-wedding photos, since I know that no brides are waiting to sneak a peek!!

Recently we shot for several hours at Foothill High School, where multiple games were in progress. The high school yearbook was coming up short for sports photos; could we help out? You bet!! We went from one game to the next, picking out choice yearbook-worthy moments. It was a lot of fun, except hard to walk away from each game and move to another!!

Oh my goodness, I love this album.

I spend a long time making each wedding album. They are so important! Everyone wants to look at a beautiful wedding album. Try pulling out a shoebox full of photos if you want to see people suddenly start looking at their watches. An album tells the story of your whole day in photos, arranged in an artistic way. Parents often want copies. I work with my couples to make sure their album is perfect for them. It's a couple's first family treasure to cherish and pass down to children.

On Saturday, I got to shoot the wedding of Karissa and Josh at the Holiday Inn in Redding.

Karissa is simply a beautiful slip of a girl, and looked just regal. She's so pretty she doesn't need any makeup. Josh is clearly crazy for her. Who wouldn't be? Both families were divine; it felt like not just a union of two people, but a joining of ranks around them. The crazy dancing went on into the night. It might still be going on. I had a wonderful time, and thank you so much for trusting me with your memories! Best of luck in your lives together!

I'm a confessed wedding album-aholic.

I enjoy designing albums so much that I decided to just stop asking if brides wanted them, and simply add them into my wedding packages. You're just going to get one. You know you want one!

I use both Asuka and Graphi, artistically laying out the pages of your album in a way that tells the complete story of your wedding day. It's a labor of love! Of course, you get to review it and let me know if you'd like any changes.

Normally I am showing you a draft of your wedding album within just a few weeks of your wedding -- sometimes sooner.

I enjoyed shooting Barbara R, her husband, granddaughter, and the family dog (does the name "Spot" sound about right?) a week ago for some overdue casual family portraits. Owing to the time of year, a blizzard developed along the way, but the cheery fire kept the chill away. Barbara plays piano beautifully and the family is delightful. Thanks Barbara!

If you're going to do a lifestyle shoot for a busy newspaper editor couple, know in advance that it might be a long wait, but will be well worth it! Newspaper people work all week and most weekends too. This couple keeps really busy with the local newspaper and hubby is a great photographer himself ... always a pleasure to "talk shop" as long as we can get away with without putting everyone else unconscious with boredom!! Kids were both photogenic and cooperative - just oustanding! One's waiting patiently (sort of) for Santa; the other is a rising soccer star. Five big love-monster dogs rush in and out delivering face-washings as permitted. Thanks, Diana and clan -- I had a blast and can't wait to come back when it's warmer out. That pet squirrel is mine (from a safe distance with my 105mm) next time!!!

We are only halfway home but just couldn't go to bed without reviewing the pictures from this wonderful wedding

What a blending of two wonderful families.

Amanda and Charlie (and your respective families), you make it very difficult for your photographers when you keep making them cry. Honestly, you guys.

We had a blast. Low stress, beautiful bride, gorgeous location, dramatic clouds and sun, food to die for. We have hundreds of photos in RAW format right now and aren't home so we peeled off just a few just using "Picasa" at a friend's house -- straight out of the camera. I wouldn't vouch for it as a RAW converter but just wait till I get home tomorrow!! I didn't want you to leave on honeymoon without at least a quick peek.

Have a wonderful honeymoon. I'm looking forward to sharing the rest of your photos with you and your family and friends soon. Keep checking back when you're home!! Major big hugs to you all!!!
